reTIRED screening at Montreal Women Film Festival

In the near future, elderly Millennials sustain a town's Trash Wall inundated by water, until one-woman notices what lies ahead.

reTired is a short animation and a nominee of Montreal Women Film Festival which was selected as a finalist for theatre screening of 2026 Montreal Women Film Festival at the well known Cinema du Parc of Montreal on September 6th, 2026.

Mari Jaye is an independent animator and an Associate Professor of Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology's School of Film and Animation. She has produced several animated films that have been screened internationally, including at festivals in Annecy, Melbourne, and Berlin. Additionally, she has created animations for Sesame Workshop, Comedy Central, and Titmouse, among others.

Her work as a director and animator on Nickelodeon’s first 2D SpongeBob 360 animation took her to a conference in Taiwan to present on equirectangular grids. She is also involved with a digital game design team at RIT’s Magic Spell Studios.

Mari Jaye is a New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Gregory Millard Fellow, an Asian American Arts Alliance UAI Fellow, an ASIFA-Hollywood grant recipient, and a co-founder of the NYC animation collective Family Camp.
