2026 Montreal Women screening of The Pornographer at Cinema du Parc

The Pornographer explores a woman's sexual experiences through a poetic and fragmented sensory journey: beginning with the awakening of desire through an animated abstract nature, progressing to vulvas resembling glowing geodes that expand, and culminating in an orgasm of radiant petals in full bloom. This film serves as both a platform for artistic experimentation and a critical tool for examining how generative AI tools portray women's sexuality.

The Pornographer is a Canadian experimental short film directed by Milla Cummings and Marie-Josee Saint-Pierre. It will be featured as an official selection at the Montreal Women Film Festival, taking place at the Cinema du Parc in Montreal on September 6th, 2026.

Milla Cummings earned a Bachelor's degree in the Art and Science of Animation from Université Laval. She is an expert in stop-motion animation, experimental animation, and animated documentary. Her film "Voies de passage" has won awards at numerous festivals globally and was prominently shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2025. Milla is now working towards a research-creation Master’s degree at Université Laval, integrating microbiology with experimental cinema.

Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre is an animation filmmaker and Associate Professor at Université Laval, where she teaches and engages in research-creation focused on feminist animation and animated documentary. Her films, which she writes, directs, and produces through MJSTP Films inc., have been showcased at over 150 festivals and have garnered approximately 60 international awards, including two Jutra Awards, a Gemini Award, and a Canadian Screen Award. Her research explores women's histories in animation, documentary practice, and the ethics of representation, with a current emphasis on critical approaches to generative AI in image-making.
