“Linda” screening for 2026 Montreal Women Film Festival

“Linda” is a touching short drama that delves into the personal effects of the housing crisis through the perspective of a woman compelled to rebuild her life following a tragic loss. After her husband’s unexpected death, Linda, a strong yet conventional woman in her late 50s, struggles to keep up with the mortgage on her family home. With no other options, she moves in with her daughter Lucy, a free-spirited university student, and Lucy’s diverse group of housemates in a bustling shared house.

“Linda” highlights the increasing challenges faced by older women in Australia, especially regarding housing insecurity, affordability, and isolation. The film portrays the tension and humor that emerge when different generations, lifestyles, and values intersect, ultimately presenting a narrative of adaptation, resilience, and hope.

“Linda" is directed by Sharon Lewish and will screen as a finalist of Montreal Women Film Festival at the Cinema du Parc on September 6th, 2026.

Sharon Lewis is an experienced film and video professional with over twenty years in the screen industry. As a dedicated storyteller, she focuses on creating work that explores human connection and social impact, helping individuals and organizations convey their messages through visual media. Her expertise includes short films, indie feature projects, music videos, TV commercials, and live events, with strong capabilities throughout the production process, from writing and directing to cinematography, editing, and post-production.

Recently, Sharon wrote and directed "Linda," a short drama that examines themes of grief, housing insecurity, and intergenerational relationships, following her award-winning film "Frances." She produced and directed "Frances" and served as the Executive Producer for "Over," which won Best Comedy at Flickerfest 2025. Her producing credits include Firebird, Magpie, The Quiet Tide, and Echo, demonstrating her continued commitment to bold, character-driven, and innovative storytelling.

Beyond her creative endeavors, Sharon is the Vice Chair of Screen Illawarra, where she actively supports local filmmakers and screen professionals in the Illawarra region. She has also been a screen and media trainer for over 20 years, sharing her industry knowledge with emerging filmmakers and creatives.
